Tule River Justice Center
This Native-American justice center for the Tule River Indian Tribe is in Porterville, California, a remote location in the western Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills outside the Sequoia National Forest.
The 2-story, steel structure building incorporates tribal cultural significance and priorities. It has a detention center, court rooms, commercial kitchen and security dispatch with on-grade parking spaces and exterior hardscape areas. There are conference rooms, a workout space and satellite office space for Tulare County Sheriff and CA Highway Patrol.
The design and layout is intended to holistically incorporate positive values, culture, laws, programs, services, and spaces to prevent and minimize crime and provide public safety. Other objectives included rehabilitating offenders and improving the quality of life on the reservation.
Clark/Sullivan and JK Architecture worked with the Tribe to value engineer $10 M from the project without reducing scope. n
