The project is unfolding in 2 increments. Increment 1 includes the construction of the ECA building and a parking lot, as well as the site work and off site utilities. Increment 2 involves modernization and structural retrofitting of two existing facilities on the site. The ECA building exterior materials of a CMU wall and exposed steel provide low maintenance and articulate how building materials work. The building provides natural light through sky lights above, while large window alcoves allow campus view or interior work projects.
This project is extremely unique in its concept as well as its development/design process. It is slated as a “building that teaches”. The students will use the building as a reference tool to what they are learning in their classes within that same building. The systems and structural members will be exposed and color coded for easy visualization for design students in their architectural courses and shop classes. Another unique feature is the “yard” area. The site to the southwest of the academy, will include an area to be utilized as a construction site for the students. A mock jobsite trailer and “project” area will be set up for students to build projects using construction equipment. It is a one-of-a-kind building that will be a trendsetter.
This project is under tight schedule restraints and is beginning at a time where ideal construction projects are ending. We may face difficulties with weather, but we have acted proactively to minimize any weather impacts. Our budget is snug as well, but through cost projection exercises, we are able to visualize the “big picture” and move forward with a good hold on the finances. We have also gone through extensive Value Engineering ideas on behalf of our client in making this project what they want without unnecessary costs. Clark & Sullivan has taken this project from concept to approved design and we are anxious to complete the project!
"I have nothing but good things to say about the company. We feel we can call them and get immediate service with every new idea that blows our way! Clark & Sullivan is a true partner who is willing to work to find the best and most affordable solution... this firm has far exceeded that of any previous firm with which I have dealt."
