<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;">     <img src="https://www.sanjuan.edu/cms/lib/CA01902727/Centricity/Domain/20/Dyer-Kelly FrontView NEWS.jpg" alt="Exterior  "       title="Exterior " height="175" width="280" style="border:px solid;" align="left" hspace="5" vspace="5">Lionakis Architect Laura Knauss describes her design team’s vision for Dyer-Kelly Elementary School’s future campus     as having a community focus with three main components: a town square, a main street and (academic) neighborhoods.     <br>     <br>Lionakis is one-half of the Design-Build team (along with Clark/Sullivan Construction) that has been selected to build     a brand new Dyer-Kelly Elementary and then demolish the existing campus. It’s the same construction team that developed     Sylvan Middle School’s new campus.     <br>     <br>“Dyer-Kelly students and community members deserve to have a beautiful space in which to learn and achieve their full     potential,” Dyer-Kelly Principal Cassandra Bennett Porter said. “The concept of being able to take a shared vision     and use innovation to create a learning space that will reflect diversity and build a culture of unity will be a profound     opportunity for our students, families, and the community we serve.”     <br>     <br>At Sylvan, Knauss led staff and students through a design process that helped develop the region’s premiere STEAM (science,     technology, engineering, arts, math) middle school campus. At Dyer-Kelly, the focus will be on building community and     helping one of San Juan Unified’s most underserved neighborhoods.     <br>     <br>“We are so pleased to be part of this transformational project for the Dyer-Kelly community,” Knauss said. “Our team     is very focused on bringing the lessons learned and spirit of teamwork that made the Sylvan project such a success     directly to Dyer-Kelly. We look forward to engaging stakeholders throughout the process to be sure the school is seen     as a true center of the community.”     <br>     <img src="https://www.sanjuan.edu/cms/lib/CA01902727/Centricity/Domain/20/Dyer-Kelly MainStreet NEWS.jpg" alt="Main Street "       title="Main Street" height="175" width="280" style="border:px solid;" align="right" hspace="5" vspace="5">     <br>Along with making sure the design of Dyer-Kelly meets the school’s next-generation learning needs, the plan for construction     is innovative in its own right. According to Clark/Sullivan Principal Ted Foor, the school will be a two-story prefabricated     building.     <br>     <br>The initial concept calls for next-generation classrooms (flexible furniture, multiple writing walls, technology, etc.)     administration offices, a multipurpose room and a library. The hallways and walkways will be spacious, making room     for flexible learning areas. None of the early concepts are set in stone. The design phase will bring about many changes     and new ideas as input is collected.     <br>     <br>One additional innovative feature of the future school is that one of the classroom wings that will be built as a single-story     unit will be easily, and affordably, expandable for eight additional classrooms as the school grows, Foor said.     <br>     <br>Here is how Lionakis describes the campus features in its early conceptual statement:     <br>     <br>   </p>   <h3>Town Square </h3>The town square welcomes the public, students and staff alike, outside of the secured campus entry.   It creates a main entry plaza, as well as space for the community to gather, prior to functions in the multi-purpose   room or simply while waiting for parent pick-up. The town square also allows after-hours access to the multi-purpose   building.   <br>   <br>   <p></p>   <h3>     <img src="https://www.sanjuan.edu/cms/lib/CA01902727/Centricity/Domain/20/Dyer-Kelly Neighborhood NEWS.jpg" alt="Neighborhood "       title="Neighborhood" height="175" width="280" style="border:px solid;" align="left" hspace="5" vspace="5">Main Street </h3>Main Street is the organizing spine for the school community – connecting public student spaces like   the learning commons, multi-purpose room and administration, to the rest of the school. Main Street is easily monitored,   and provides interior space for student gathering, expanded learning spaces as well as circulation.   <br>   <br>   <h3>&nbsp;</h3>   <h3>Academic Neighborhoods </h3>Quieter "side streets" access the academic neighborhoods from Main Street. With classrooms   organized around the central corridor, the "street" can be used for student breakout spaces, project based learning,   small group instruction and student gathering. Imagine a space connected by folding glass walls that expands the learning   environment, while still allowing supervisions and classroom connectedness. These neighborhoods can be personalized,   or branded, to improved wayfinding and as an approach to reducing the scale of the school, creating student connection   to their neighborhood.   <br>   <br>   <h3>The Reading Porch</h3>On the second floor, the learning commons (library) creates a hub for student research and reading.   The line is blurred between the commons and the reading porch, which is adjacent, but uses the open corridor to expand   the usable space and create an environment that has reading on display.   <br>   <br>All of the early concepts for the Dyer-Kelly campus are preliminary, and will be further developed in the coming months   as Knauss and her team meet with a “user group” consisting of the school’s principal, staff members, students, parents,   safe schools employees and the community.   <br>   <br>Construction is expected to begin in 2018 with plans to open for the beginning of the 2019-20 school year.   <br>   <p>&nbsp;</p> </div>

<h2>Lisa Maloff University Center</h2>  <p>Lake Tahoe Community College is breaking ground this summer on a university center                   made possible by a $5.8 million donation, the largest in the college’s history, from                   longtime South Lake Tahoe philanthropist Lisa Maloff. The Lisa Maloff University Center                   will become the home for current and future bachelor degree programs on the community                   college campus.                </p>                                <p>The LTCC Foundation is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on June 21 at the building                   site, located next to the college’s Fine Arts building and Duke Theatre. The approximately                   7,000 square foot building is scheduled for completion by fall 2018 and will house                   four flexible classrooms that can be combined into two larger rooms for events, a                   lobby, restrooms, offices, and meeting spaces. There will also be an outdoor plaza                   to serve as a hosting area for special events.                </p>                                <p>“Lake Tahoe is a premier California destination, and it deserves a college to match,”                   said LTCC President Jeff DeFranco. “Thanks to Mrs. Maloff’s generous support we are                   laying the foundation for a 21<sup>st</sup> century learning environment for our students.”                </p>                                <p>DeFranco noted that a significant theme that emerged from a community survey conducted                   in 2013 during the college’s process to undergo a general obligation bond measure                   was the desire for four-year degree opportunities in South Lake Tahoe. The college                   is currently piloting two bachelor degree programs in partnership with Sierra Nevada                   College: global business management and psychology.                </p>                                <p>Currently, students complete their first two years through LTCC and then start upper                   division classes taught by Sierra Nevada College faculty on the LTCC campus. These                   degree programs along with other possible future partnerships with public and private                   universities would move into the Lisa Maloff University Center upon completion. LTCC                   is in talks with other potential partners like California State University, Sacramento,                   and Washington State University.                </p>                                <p>Roberta Mason, a founding LTCC board member who served on the college board for 40                   years, said she believes the university center will change lives on South Shore.“Lisa                   and Bob (Maloff) have always supported the college through scholarships and gifts                   over the years, and when Lisa approached the college about something more significant                   she made it clear she wanted it to make a difference,” Mason said. “This center will                   make it possible for students, who through life circumstances can’t travel or move,                   to reach their educational goals. That is a great service to this community.”                </p>"
