For many, the intern experience can be the turning point in ones education. An internship serves as an experience to open your eyes to your true potential in a career path. For our summer intern, Tawni DePaoli, this was an experience she will never forget.
We sat down with Tawni to see how her experience went from her point of view.
What attracted you to an internship at Clark/Sullivan Construction?
I met Todd Miknus at the UNR engineering career fair this spring and he was so energetic and excited about the company and the jobs that they perform. After further research of what C/S does within the community, it left no doubt that I wanted to work with this amazing team.
What was your favorite part about your internship?
The topping out party for the Nevada Museum of Art – This was my first major project as an intern at C/S and I was involved in a large portion of the project management process. When I got to sign my name on the final steel beam and watch as it was raised to the top of the museum, I became extremely emotional. To me, this signified all the success of all the hard work that I had put in thus far as a civil engineering undergrad and the beginning of an amazing career.
Why did you decide to stay with Clark/Sullivan once you were offered a full-time position?
C/S has an amazing team. Right from the first day I started I felt welcome. Every person I met was more than willing to help me become better at all the tasks needed to be a well-rounded and successful employee at C/S. The work we do here and the relationships we have with our subcontractors is something that makes me really enjoy this job.
What advice would you give to future Clark/Sullivan interns?
Ask as many questions as you can think of! Everyone here has been in the business and with the company so long that there is an unlimited wealth of knowledge. Be very hands on and be sure to make site visits. It’s very rewarding to see your hard work become something.
If you could describe your internship experience in one word, how would you describe it?
That’s easy, I use this one word to describe it to everyone who asks. AMAZING!
Tawni is currently studying Civil Engineering at the University of Nevada and is expected to graduate with her B.S. in December 2016.
